“I quit web3”
“Getting a job is so hard, I quit”.
I started my web3 job journey in November 2023 and 2 weeks in, I had my first job.
But the secret is, I had an edge.
The edge was I understood human psychology and the foundation is …
‘’People will always have problems that need solving”
You just need to find people with the kind of problem you can solve.
Plus, after getting hundreds of DMs of “newbies” crying about how HARD getting a job is, I’m here to tell you that …
Yes, it freaking HARD.
In fact, I think you should quit (kidin’, lol. I’m tryna give you tough love here)
The entire foundation of web3 jobs is problems.
Projects/influencers/founders experience different problems every day that require SOLVING.
So, before you quit, have you been trying to solve problems, or you’ve just been trying to get a “job”?
If you’re a problem solver, the web3 jobs space is the best working environment you’ll ever be in.
In this letter, I will walk you through 4 steps that have helped me land jobs.
Again, you need to know how to solve problems with the right skill.
You can start with writing, it’s one of the highest-paying skills in the space (btw $500 - $1000 pay range).
You can grab the mastering content writing course to learn how to be a badass, hot cake writer.
That said, there are 4 ways to land clients:
- Cold DMs
- Affiliates
- Referrals
- Personal brand attraction
I’ll break down each of these steps as simply as I can.
Cold DM: Too many people are obsessed with this one.
And 99% do it wrong, that’s why there isn’t any result.
Cold DM is basically when you reach out to someone who doesn’t:
- Know
- Like
- Trust you.
That’s why it’s almost frustrating.
Humans naturally buy from people they trust, like, and know.
So, how do you make them LTK (Like, Trust, Know) you?
The secret is to “warm” the prospect first.
“Warming” your prospects is all about connecting with them LIKE humans.
Ex: You find a project you’d like to work for and solve tangible problems...
I wouldn’t advise you to reach out to the official page (the SM handler can delete your message if they feel your proposal threatens their job).
The best way:
- Check the “following” of the official page and find the founders or core team members
- Follow them and interact
- If you genuinely follow their content, drop thoughtful comments (not LFG kind) on their recent post.
- Make your PFP stick out
- Reach out in the DM either appreciating or complimenting their work. Use the Networking Guide 101 to connect with them.
This is why I’m not a big player in numbers when it comes to cold DMs.
100 cold DMs a day isn’t bad, people do it, but not me.
I rather warm my prospects and increase my chances by 66%.
Affiliates: When you have a high in-demand skill like writing, you can get others to bring you jobs and you pay in commission.
Flipping the coin, If you don’t have any skill yet or you’re still learning, you can bring jobs to others and get commissioned.
I do this every time with my friends I know are good at what they do.
If you want to start an affiliate marketing business in web3:
- Look for 3–5 people who are good at what they do.
- Reach out to them and mention your intention.
- If they consent, hunt for the job, bring the deal, and get commissioned.
There’s almost no excuse, skill or no skill.
Referrals: This one is the easiest, ngl.
You do a good job for one person, then get referred to one or ten other people.
This one is self-explanatory — do a good job, and mildly ask for a referral.
Ex: “Hey Jack, do you know someone else that would need writing services? I have a few slots to take on more clients. Would appreciate the recommendation.”
Simple.
Personal brand attraction: In a time when ATTENTION is the new gold, building your brand is a necessity.
Beyond getting a web3 job, your brand will always put you ahead.
With your brand, you almost don’t need a CV to land gigs.
How to start your brand journey:
- Optimize your profile (your banner, profile picture, and bio)
- Define your brand (you don’t have to figure it all out if you’re just starting)
- Start creating content consistently.
Your content is what will attract your prospective client.
So, post quality content.

I hope this letter somehow helps your Web3 journey.
That’s it for this one.
Until next time,
Phoenixx.
