I used to think of social apps like Twitter, TikTok, and Instagram as platforms to tear away from boredom.
More than 60% of people who use social media do so to distract themselves from the “wahala” of this world.
But I bumped into a post by Dan Koe post, He said …
“The Internet has over 4 billion people who have access to it, with the power of social media, you have access to these people.” - Dan Koe
My mind ran wild.
It instantly shifted my perception of social media.
I mean, if I have this much access to this amount of people... I could make as much as I wanted.
The gift of the Internet is like a blank cheque, literally.
Audience Building in The Digital Age:
Even with this new oil well that’s completely free to leverage, 98% of people still use it VERY WRONG.
They're still wandering and scrolling over social apps without making the most of it.

How to make the most of the internet?
An audience.
That’s the first and most important step.
You need people you can provide immense value to, either through content, services, or products.
Value of Building an Audience
I started my "trials" of audience building in 2022.
It was so hard that I gave up below 500 followers on Twitter (formerly X) Ngl.
I moved to Instagram because I thought it would be "nicer."
I still failed.
Although I saw people build their audience effortlessly, I thought I was just terrible at things.
Fast forward to 2023, the “switch” happened in November.
In less than 6 months, I went from 400 to about 4,000 followers on X (formerly Twitter).
And with the awareness and experience I've gotten, I think I know how to build a much larger audience, faster.
The value
I should mention this …
An audience is more than just a group of followers or subscribers.
It's beyond getting to 10k, 20k, or 50k followers.
Your audience is a community of people that:
- Align with your vision/purpose.
- Trust you and your judgment.
- Interested in what you have to offer.
For the sake of clarity, Here are the benefits of an audience:
Credibility and Authority: Building an audience establishes you as an authority in your niche. When people constantly turn to you for information, advice, or entertainment, it grows your credibility.
Visibility and Influence: A well-established audience amplifies your voice, giving you the ability to influence others, share your ideas, and contribute to ideas that matter. That's how you become a KOL (key opinion leader), and not until you get to 100k followers.
Support and Feedback: Your audience can help you refine your ideas, validate your products, and even spread the word about your work. This kind of support network is crucial for sustained growth.
If building an audience is so important, the next thing is “how”.
How can anyone build a solid audience?
I’ll answer the “how” question in 5 steps below.
How To Build a Cult-Like Audience
1. Understand Your Audience
- Identify Your Niche: You want to identify a specific area where you can provide value. If you don’t have a clear niche you want to focus on, it would be hard to attract a targeted audience interested in your offer.
- Create Audience Personas: Mistake number one by at least 76% of people trying to build their audience.
You should develop a detailed profile of your ideal followers, including their demographics, interests, pain points, and preferred platforms. This helps your content direction and other things you intend to put out.
2. Create High-Quality Content
- Value-Driven Content: Your content is the ultimate way to build an audience. What you put out is how people connect with you. So, you must understand the dynamics of content writing.
Your content should either:
Educates
Entertains
Solves problems for your audience.
You have to ensure your content is relevant and resonates with their needs.
- Consistency is Key: Posting regularly is underrated. You need to keep your audience engaged, whether daily, weekly, or monthly, and stick to a schedule you can maintain.
3. Collaboration with Other builders
This one is important.
Collaboration opens doors to more opportunities and gives you room to connect with like minds so you can grow and share strategies.
Imagine having a group of 5 to 10 builders in a group where you guys communicate effective strategies learned…

4. Cultivate Authenticity
Authenticity builds trust.
People can sense when you’re sincere and authentic over time. You don’t have to “fake and lie”, you can start by genuinely sharing your journey, challenges, and successes in a way that resonates with your audience.
Just be authentic, that’s what people fall in love with.
5. Analyze and Adapt
Track Performance: Your metrics are important. It helps you know what content worked and what didn’t, Monitor metrics like reach, engagement, and conversion rates.
Use tools, like X (formerly Twitter) analytics, to measure the success of your content and engagement strategies.
Listen to Feedback: Be attentive to your audience’s feedback and adjust your content or strategy accordingly. This can be through comments, poll surveys, or direct messages.
Stay Updated on Trends: The digital space evolves quickly, especially spaces like Web3, so stay informed about new platforms, tools, and trends that can help you create better content.
Building an audience is an experimental journey.
And just like Rome, It’s not built in one day.
Two Keys:
- Patience
- Iteration
There are keys you should take alongside you in your journey to building an audience.
Take them, and absorb them.
